Controller (CPA Highly Preferred)

Position Overview
We are seeking an experienced and detail-oriented Controller to lead and manage all financial operations of our organization. This full-time, in-person role is responsible for ensuring accurate financial reporting, maintaining strong internal controls, supporting regulatory compliance, and providing strategic financial insights to senior leadership.
The ideal candidate is hands-on, organized, and thrives in a fast-paced professional services or public accounting environment. A CPA certification is highly preferred.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee day-to-day accounting operations including general ledger maintenance, accounts payable/receivable, payroll, and bank reconciliations
- Prepare, review, and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements
- Manage budgeting, forecasting, and cash flow planning processes
- Ensure compliance with GAAP and relevant federal and state regulations
- Lead and execute month-end and year-end close processes
- Coordinate audits and support external tax partners with required documentation
- Develop, implement, and maintain strong internal controls and accounting policies
- Monitor financial performance and deliver actionable insights to leadership
- Manage, mentor, and develop accounting staff (as applicable)
- Oversee financial systems, accounting software, and vendor relationships
- Partner with leadership on strategic financial planning, operational improvements, and long-term growth initiatives
Qualifications & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field (CPA strongly preferred)
- 5+ years of progressive accounting experience, including experience as a Controller or senior-level accounting leader
- Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial reporting, and internal control frameworks
- Prior experience in professional services, tax, or public accounting firms highly preferred
- Proficiency with accounting systems and advanced Excel skills required
- Exceptional analytical, organizational, and problem-solving abilities
- High level of integrity, confidentiality, and attention to detail
Work Environment
- In-person role; remote or hybrid work is not available
- Collaborative, team-oriented office setting
- Standard business hours with occasional flexibility during peak periods (e.g., month-end, year-end)
